International Couture Runway Show

A Fusion of fashion & Visual Arts

To be asked to be involved in bringing the futuristic vision of Neva Weber’s “Sky Forest” international fashion event, held in Melbourne November 2018 was very exciting.

The Angels With Wings project was about creating something not only unique, but totally memorable. Additionally, the show was designed to showcase ‘Beauty in Diversity. This meant models and designers from different countries, different looks.

There were three components to my involvement:

(1) create a body art design for the branding of the show

(2) paint an artwork live at the Media Launch prior to the show

(3) body paint & create a couture gown to be worn by Kelly Cartwright – Australian Paralympian, as the final look seen on the runway during the show

The designs I created was to reinforce the theme of the show, bringing in femininity, futuristic concepts and to showcase Kelly.

The colours chosen for the gown design were selected as they represent self love, universal love, anything is possible. The silver and electrical components bought in a robotic feel to the design.

The director Neva Weber was also looking for original out of the box brand images for use on all marketing material. The use of body art as the main image set the ‘expect the unexpected’ tone for the event. This photo shoot generated multiple images and video for marketing and PR purposes.

The final puzzle piece for this project was the inclusion of live art in the pre-show Media Event. Angels with Wings are strong supporters of Mercy Ships, and I agreed to provide an original artwork for charity auction. This piece was created during the Media Event, auctioned on the night of the Runway Show.

The integration of visual arts into a Runway and Fashion event created a spectacular result that was not only memorable but something Australia has not seen before.
