Painting a Galaxy for Entrance Way in New Home.
I met my clients 2 1/2 months after they had moved into a new home. The home had been recently painted, with the colours of choice being grey walls with dark charcoal or black feature walls, doors and skirting. This was a strong contrast to their external environment, where they are surrounded by trees, river and a large pool at the entrance.
Just inside the door was a recessed wall, perfect for a feature piece. We measured that the piece created for this space was to be 2.5m(w) x 1.4m(h). A significant sized painting. One of the interesting challenges we faced was the very small space on entering the door. The viewing distance once inside was no more that 1.5m – small for that size canvas. Additionally, the painting is seen the moment you open the date entry into the internal front yard – a viewing distance of approx 20m. This meant creating a piece that whilst not too busy to be viewed close, had the impact required on first arriving.
To lift the energy of the darker colours in the home, we spent some time discussing the favourite colours of the couple, and what it was that they wanted the energy of their entrance way to be. Love, strength, stability were three key emotions to this family so it was decided to incorporate pinks, deep blues and tan…with white as the highlight.
A galaxy was selected as space was a favourite topic of the couple. This image would also lend itself to creating on a dark canvas – also great to tie in the current decor.
Installation of this piece was critical to ensure an exact boarder of 320mm around the painting to create additional depth and showcase as a feature.
My client was very very happy with the final result, with this piece creating the energy they wanted. As was mentioned during the installation by the couple “don’t know how you did it, but you have captured the energy of this home and of us perfectly. Thank you”.
